What is
Spyware?
Often
spyware and ad ware are given the same meaning, however, spyware can be
intentionally malicious.
A
spyware program is an independent executable program residing on your PC.
It will have all the
privileges of the user that installed it.
These privileges
allow software to read, write and delete files, download and install other
software, interrogate other devices attached to the system, or even format
the hard drive.
In addition to tracking
your browsing habits, personal information can be obtained and sent along
using virus-like programs called “Trojans”.
Trojans create a pathway
through an internet connection to a “host”.
Spyware can:
-
log your chats.
-
arbitrarily scan
files on your hard drive.
-
log your key strokes including user name and
passwords.
-
snoop your documents, E-mail, and favorite websites.
-
change your home page on your browser.
-
cause system
slowdown, “Illegal Operation errors”, Browser crashes and the "Blue Screen
Of Death".
-
report that you have
attempted to remove them from your system.
-
be difficult to remove
