What is Ad ware?
-
Ad ware is “advertising supported software”, but it is
sometimes called “Spyware”.
-
The most
common culprits are shareware and "freeware" applications, but
paid-for commercial software has been known to contain ad ware as
well.
-
Shareware authors make money from a product, with out
selling it to the users.
-
Advertising companies place ads on a web site in
exchange for a portion of the revenue from banner sales to the web
site.
-
Using your Internet connection, advertising companies
can install tracking software on your system, which calls the
company, and reports statistical data of your browsing habits.
-
The companies claim no sensitive or identifying data
is collected from your system. They claim you shall remain
anonymous.
-
However, in essence, you have a tracking device
sitting on your PC, sending information about your surfing habits to
a remote location without your knowledge or sometimes, permission.
-
Some products display advertising but do not install
any tracking mechanism on your system.
-
It is not directly malicious to your computer,
it can however, be annoying.
-
Indirectly, they waste your computers resources and
internet connection, slowing your system.
-
Ad ware can usually be easy to remove and
block.

ware. Its removal can help the speed of your system.
